Josh Ewing ~ Candidate, House District 25

More Than A Good Democrat...A Real Leader
Josh Ewing has proven himself as a good democratic soldier, who has helped many prominent Democrats get elected. But Josh is more than that. He has the knowledge of government, the communications skills, and the respect of legislative leaders needed to forge progressive change.

Building a Bridge Without Compromising Its Structure
Let’s face it. In the state legislature, we Democrats are outnumbered. So it’s not enough to be a progressive vote that all too often gets drowned out. For us to grow our party and be effective at making positive policy changes,we must be able to build a bridge to Utah’s majority. To accomplish this, we need representatives the public will see as being strong, reasonable voices for what the people want—not just a pigeonholed minority party begging for attention. We also need leaders who have proven themselves as being able to reach across the aisle to improve our laws and policies.

Issues That Matter
All too often, the Legislature spends way too much time avoiding the real issues—and there are many that impact our daily lives. Josh is passionate about some key issues, but he is also a listener who will attack any issue with hard work and persistence.

Education and After-School Funding
• Josh’s wife, Kirsten, is an elementary school teacher who recently moved from full-time work to part-time teaching. She made her decision based mostly on the huge lack of resources available for Utah’s teachers. Kirsten often had more than 30 kids in her class, with at least a half dozen not speaking English. Don’t even try to tell Josh and Kirsten that the solution is more testing. Let’s get real: our teachers need more resources—like teacher’s aides, language specialists, and after-school programs—and that takes more funding.

Open Space Preservation and Environmental Protection
• You gotta be kidding me! The state has more than a billion dollar surplus and Utah’s open space fund actually gets a cut in funding.
• Most of us live here at least partly because we love our outstanding scenic and recreation resources. But state government is doing far too little to protect these resources and prepare for future generations. Protecting roadless areas, taking steps to stop global warming, and improved public transportation options all should be championed in the legislature.

Add Your Issue Here
• Representatives are elected to be a voice for their constituents’ concerns. Josh loves to learn about new issues and find creative solutions to solve problems. One call will put Josh to work on your issue.
