Did Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne say that 60% of Utahns are Bigots?

From the Salt Lake Tribune article,
Voucher issue heats up in latest debate
by Glen Warchol
"It's not about accountability. it's about bigotry,"
Patrick Byrne
Mr. Byrne, please read the following definitions:

BIGOT: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

ACCOUNTABILITY: the quality or state of being accountable; especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions

How could you confuse these two words Mr. Byrne? Maybe the next definition will help you better choose your words in the future.

HYPOCRITE: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue

With every best wish,

The Utah Amicus

"It is the private schools that choose to accept students or not."

I hope private schools don't accept eveyone...that's the problem with public schools..classes are taught are pace of the slowest learner ; in private schools you admit kids you know are going to make it.

Hypocrites!!! How dare you liberals call us hypocrites. Us republicans are just smarter and better than anyone.

Well actually, if the Deseret News quote is correct, he said it is “about bigotry”.
Whereas Vik Arnold said if there is bigotry it is in the private schools.
Sounds like both parties are using the “B” word
I don’t have the numbers for all private schools, however in the Catholic schools 27% percent of the students are of an ethnic minority. What is the ratio in the public schools Mr. Arnold, and which ethnic group are these schools showing bigotry towards?

As I understand it, Arnold is a registered Republican Marlin.

Arnold also said, "if there is bigotry..."

It was Byrne who brought up the "B" word, not Arnold.

There are probably bigots in both public and private schools. Private schools are the only schools not subject to civil rights requirements though so they are able to act on their bigotry. No accountability measures such as civil rights or special services are required to protect those who don't fit in. Take a look at some private school websites, they choose you, not the other way around.

to the first anon:
So, you are suggesting that we ignore the slow learners and hope they will go away. That is the Ann Coulter approach in solving problems.
What if one of those slow learners were one of your kids? Then it would be a different story. But, once again, with or without vouchers, only affluent families could afford a private school for their slow learning child.

If anyone is a "bigot," it is Mr. Byrne for wanting to divert precious tax dollars to private schools that are free to use entrance exams and other requirements to deny admission to students with disabilities, students who are struggling academically, etc.

This is what I think is so rediculous: Byrne says he thinks the voucher issue is an IQ test for Utah, after quoting an unrelated Beowulf line to make himself look neato. If the guy's interest is REALLY on helping deserving kids get into private schools, why didn't he take the $2,000,000.00 he put into the pro voucher campaign and create a scholarship fund to help get kids into private schools instead? Hey, it didn't take a genius to figure out that approximately 3/4 of Utahns were voting against vouchers long before the poll yesterday, so a better use of that money would have been such a scholarship program. That is, if his interest really IS helping kids, and not just the success of some specific schools. I consider the fact that Utahns didn't buy into the silly voucher program despite the money spent on propoganda to be passing this IQ test with flying colors. How about you respond personally, Mr. Byrne?
