D-News: Utah voucher issue appears doomed

60% in poll say they'll likely vote against it on Nov. 6

Voucher opponents have a strong majority of voters' support, according to a new poll.

Sixty percent of Utah voters say they would likely vote against a voucher program, according to a Dan Jones & Associates poll conducted for the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV. In comparison, 34 percent said they would vote for vouchers, while 7 percent were undecided.

The poll of 409 Utahns was conducted last week and has a margin of error of 5 percent.

And you know what? We deserve it for writing PCE a blank check for so long.

The voucher issue will not be doomed until PCE's boys and girls are removed from the legislature by the voters. We need more legislators who are actually helping to improve education for all. We need to get rid of the few and powerful who are lackeys of the extreme right and union busters and who are too busy with that agenda to pay attention to the needs of their constituents.

Anonymous,

No need to be anonymous. We've been saying the same thing for years.

you are absolutely right. But I believe it should go a step further. The solution is one that some Utahns feel uncomfortable with. And that is we need to elect more Democrats into the Legislature.
And moderate Republicans should seriously consider that move. Then, the Republican leadership will be shaken up and force their party to elect better candidates.
The comeback from conservatives is, "Why I should vote for a Democrat just because he/she is a Democrat?"
But, this state has been electing Republicans mostly because of the "R" next to their name.
Yes, we need to elect candidates for who they are and not for their party. But, that hasn't been happening for more than two decades.

I love the comment by PCE saying that voucher opponents haven't been gaining much ground. I also love that they will keep doing what they are doing, it seems to be working so well.

With the lead ONLY going from 21 to 26 points, maybe PCE can break out the oreo's and show me how long it will take them to get a majority at the rate they are going
