(KSL News) A report by the Utah Foundation finds Utah's per-pupil spending for public education in 2005 was the lowest in the nation. Utah has held that ranking since 1988.
The report cites growth in spending for health, transportation and prisons -- which took higher priority in the late 1990s and 2000s -- as the reason for fewer funds to education.
For Utah to rise to the national median in 2005, it would have cost $1.4 billion.
