"We see vouchers as a major step toward the complete privatization of schooling. In fact, after careful study, we have come to the conclusion that they are the only way to dismantle the current socialist regime."

Wow, I had no idea that we were living in a socialist country. I should thank Joseph Bast for pointing out that I am a part of this "evil", socialistic society because my children are in public schools.
All of us who have supported public schools should send Mr. Bast a thank you card.
This is the true agenda of the national voucher forces. How ironic to use a socialistic government subsidy program like vouchers in order to subvert the integrity of the institution of public education.
It's sad that in a state where over 95 % of the students attend their public schools that this movement could take root.
They manipulate the fears and underlying insecurities of parents in our state to undermine and eventually destroy one of our most important local institutions. This will further divide our society along lines of religion, neighborhood, money, money, money.
What's next--privatized security firms, individual water wells for each residence, private toll roads, coin-operated sewer systems, and open bid fire protection?
Where is this angry obsession with education coming from? And why does everything have to be about money and profit these days???? Government, as bumbly and inefficient as it may be, may one day be the only defense and protection the individual has against the power of faceless profit-driven corporations.
