Gas Gouge Quandary?

A friend of mine commented yesterday on an old photo I had posted to my Facebook site shortly after my visit to New Mexico on April 14th, 2007. His comment really got me thinking about the dire affect of gas prices on everyday hard working Americans.
In light of President Bush visiting Utah over the last 24 hours please consider the Gas Gouge Quandary. Three C3 planes, carrying 5 Marine One helicopters and One Air Force One plane all to attend a 30 to 70 thousand dollar per person high donor McCain fundraiser at Mitt Romney's Park City Utah home. "Priceless."
Is this an example of U.S. Tax Payer dollars spent well? Is it ethical to have any U.S. President use tax dollars to spend on partisan fundraising while still in office? Did Bush have to tap into the Federal Oil Reserves for this trip?

FWIW, although it is probably excessive to have all of this stuff go wherever the President is traveling the costs associated with political fundraising is borne by the campaigns and not the taxpayers.

In addition to the helicopters, which are HUGE, don't also forget the 5-Suburban motorcade as well. Those things are so heavy, and so big, they MUST have extra gas tanks on them, just to get to where they're going.

Talk about Conspicuous Consumption.

And ANON, respectfully, at the end of the day, who REALLY pays for all this?

I am not sure you have your facts totally straight. The last time Bush came to Utah the Republican Party had to pick up the costs.

This time with all the extra local security and support that was involved very little was minutely absorbed by McCain's fundraiser. The remainder in large part will be passed on to the local taxpayers in full.

But it is still unethical to be a sitting President, Democrat or Republican and do partisan fundraising on the tax payers' dime.
