On May 15, 2008 I linked a post from the Fraud Files Blog by Tracy Coenen titled Supporting pyramid schemes is lucrative for politicians where Tracy pointed out that Utah's current Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has received $110,000.00 in campaign contributions since 2003 from Pre-Paid legal.
Since the next post on The Utah Amicus will actually be a post stolen (with permission) from the Fraud Files Blog I thought you should know a little more about the author.
From the Fraud File Blog:
Tracy Coenen is a forensic accountant and fraud examiner who investigates white collar crimes, including cases of financial statement fraud, embezzlement, tax fraud, and insurance fraud. She is the author of Essentials of Corporate Fraud and more than 100 articles on fraud featured in industry publications.
Tracy has personally investigated hundreds of frauds in a wide variety of industries, including cases of embezzlement, financial statement fraud, investment fraud, and insurance fraud. She has served as an expert witness in numerous cases in state and federal courts involving damage calculations, commercial contract disputes, shareholder disputes and criminal defense.
She is not only a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), but also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). The CFE designation is the "gold standard" for those involved in financial investigations and fraud analysis. As an expert witness, Tracy continuously demonstrates her expertise, not only on paper, but also in the courtroom. She is a skilled witness who connects with judges and juries to help them understand complex financial matters.
Tracy is the 2007 winner of the prestigious Hubbard Award, given by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. The 40,000 worldwide members of ACFE voted for the best article from the 2006 issues of Fraud Magazine, and selected Tracy's article Financial Statement Fraud in the Katrina Aftermath: A Whirlwind of Opportunities as the winner.
Tracy wrote Essentials of Corporate Fraud, a book that offers executives, attorneys, and auditors a chance to benefit from Tracy's real-world experience as a fraud examiner and financial investigator.
Read more about Tracy's qualifications here.
BTW, Tracy is a registered Republican and the reason I'm sharing this fact is just in case someone tries to accuse her of being a Democratic partisan who is politicizing her opinion to promote the "Liberal Agenda."

Here's a slogan for AG Shurtleff, "Hey, vote for me! I'm just kinda, ethically, challenged."
