ELATES: The Utah Amicus is off to Denver!

I was sitting in a meeting Wednesday morning when I received the following letter on my Blackberry...

Rob -

In about an hour, we’ll announce the blogs selected for the State Blogger Corps at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Congratulations. I’m writing to let you know that The Utah Amicus will be the credentialed blog from Utah.

The DNCC staff is ready to welcome you to Denver in August. We know that you’ll be the eyes and ears of a large audience back home. As we’ve said, members of the State Blogger Corps will be seated alongside their delegations at the Convention. You’ll literally have one of the best seats in the house. And we expect that you’ll share that up-front view with your online community of readers and other bloggers. Together, we’ll make sure this Democratic Convention is seen and experienced online in more ways than ever before.

Let’s start with some content you can post on your own blog. Howard Dean was in Denver yesterday and he recorded a video message introducing the State Blogger corps - your blog specifically. Upload the video to YouTube or whatever your preferred video service may be. You can download the raw QuickTime file here:

We know you probably have lots of questions about Convention logistics. Hotel rooms? Travel? Workspace in the Pepsi Center? We’ll be in touch very shortly with helpful information. And we’ll probably have a few more questions for you. The Convention staff here in Denver will guide you through the details – so keep an eye out for our e-mails and calls.

We hope you’ll share today’s news with your readers. For now, it’s exclusively yours. We’ll be publicizing your blog’s name and URL in a press release later this morning – and that will be your first opportunity to see the full list of credentialed state blogs. (We’ll announce the list of additional credentialed blogs, the General Blogger Pool, before the end of the month.)

Once again, congrats!

Aaron Myers
Director of Online Communications
2008 Democratic National Convention Committee

I jumped out of my chair, hopped up and down, and then realized that everyone in the room was staring at me. You can bet that I felt a bit foolish but what the hell, I was going to the 2008 Democratic National Convention and I was elated!

I don't know if words can explain how grateful I am to have this opportunity to be eyes and ears of the Utah blogosphere in Denver, and I need to thank Howard Dean, The DNC, the DNCC Credentialing Committee, Aaron Meyers and his staff, and all those involved in putting this opportunity together.

Most importantly, I need to thank our readers and our contributors for making The Utah Amicus the first blog in history from Utah to receive a credential to the Democratic National Convention.

With every best wish,

The Utah Amicus

PS, and thank you J.M. Bell for getting Rob'bed
